The windows of Dubuque’s First Congregational Church date back to 1860 when the sanctuary of the building at 10th and Locust Streets was finally completed. The new church boasted ten art glass windows on the east and west walls along with an impressive thirteen-foot-diameter rose window in the south gable.
Over the next 130 years, two new windows were added to the north wall, six of the original windows were replaced with jewel-tone masterpieces, and a “children’s window” was added to a niche at the rear of the sanctuary. Each period of window construction has added to the beauty of the sanctuary and has enhanced the worship experience of members and visitors alike. Constance Cherba May 2023 Dubuque, Iowa |
